LAHORE: Punjab has proposed Rs500.62 billion for the health sector in its 2026-27 budget, assigning more than a tenth of the provincial outlay to healthcare, according to budget documents.
The allocation includes Rs424.32 billion for non-development spending. This amount is intended to cover salaries, medicines, operational costs and the routine functioning of public health institutions across the province.
Another Rs76.3 billion has been earmarked for development schemes focused on hospital upgrades, expansion of healthcare infrastructure and the introduction of modern medical technologies. The budget documents say the spending plan is aimed at improving medical services, specialised treatment and emergency care.
Although the total health allocation is lower than the amount set aside in the previous budget, the new plan has been framed around high-impact projects and faster completion of key initiatives in the sector, according to the budget papers.
