LAHORE: The Punjab government is set to unveil its budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 tomorrow, with a total outlay exceeding Rs5,300 billion.
The draft budget allocates Rs4,060 billion for non-development expenditures and Rs1,240 billion for the Annual Development Programme (ADP).
The development budget will fund 3,132 schemes, with Rs535.98 billion set aside for 1,441 ongoing projects and Rs470.62 billion for 1,663 new initiatives. Furthermore, Rs233.40 billion will be allocated for 28 older development projects.
A significant portion of the development budget, Rs1,115.70 billion, will be financed through local resources, while Rs124.30 billion will come from foreign assistance.
This announcement follows the budget presentations from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and comes amid reports that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) plans to raise the tax-free cash withdrawal limit for non-filers to Rs75,000 per day from the previous Rs50,000 under the Finance Bill 2025-26.
The revised policy will introduce a 0.8% withholding tax on withdrawals, up from 0.6%, to promote tax compliance.
