ISLAMABAD: Murree has been upgraded to an autonomous Municipal Corporation after fresh local government delimitations were finalised under the Punjab Local Government Act, according to details reported on Monday.
The reorganisation splits the district into four local government units with a combined total of 47 union councils. Under the new structure, the Municipal Corporation itself consists of 17 union councils.
The corporation covers a population of 132,005. The delimitation exercise is intended to create a more even balance between urban and rural representation while also supporting a fairer allocation of municipal resources across the district.
With the new administrative setup in place, Murree will now function under a revised local government framework designed for the hill station and its surrounding areas.
