Student found dead in Islamia College Peshawar hostel

PESHAWAR: A second-year student of Islamia College Peshawar was found dead in a room at the institution's Tribal Hostel, police said on Sunday, in what is being treated as a suspected suicide case.

Police said the incident took place in Room No. 29 of the hostel, where the student, identified as Zahid Afridi, was discovered dead. His body was moved to a hospital for a postmortem examination, while an investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of the death.

According to police, Zahid Afridi belonged to Darra Adamkhel and was studying at Islamia College Peshawar. Initial information suggests he may have taken his own life, but police said the exact cause of death has not yet been established.

Officials said police and other relevant authorities reached the scene after receiving information about the incident, collected evidence and shifted the body to hospital for legal formalities. Investigators are also gathering details from fellow students and other relevant people. The student's death spread grief across the hostel and the college, while students expressed sorrow and called for a transparent investigation. Sources described him as an active athlete known for taking part in sports activities.
