 LAHORE: Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lahore, Sun Yan, on Sunday described voluntary blood donation as a noble act recognized and valued by all religions, stressing that while individuals become doctors, engineers and professionals in different fields, blood donors stand apart for directly saving human lives and serving humanity in its purest form.

He made these remarks while speaking as chief guest at a seminar organised by the Sundas Foundation at the Children’s Library Complex in Lahore to mark World Blood Donor Day and highlight the importance of voluntary blood donation, as well as the challenges faced by patients suffering from thalassemia and haemophilia. The event was attended by educationists, senior journalists, social leaders and representatives from various walks of life.

Other speakers included renowned journalist and Patron of Sundas Foundation Suhail Warraich, Founder and President Muhammad Yaseen Khan (Sitara-i-Imtiaz), Director Khalid Abbas Dar, and Director Special Initiatives, Punjab Education Foundation, Nusrat Baqi.

Speaking on the occasion, Sun Yan underscored the strong bond between Pakistan and China, saying the friendship between the two countries was not only strategic but deeply rooted in shared cultural and humanitarian values. “This is not only a friendship between two nations; it is a friendship rooted in humanity,” he said, adding that China remained committed to expanding cooperation and investment in Pakistan’s healthcare sector to improve medical services and public welfare.

Renowned journalist Suhail Warraich paid tribute to voluntary blood donors and highlighted the need to promote compassion, social responsibility and humanitarian values in society. He also lauded the Sundas Foundation for its longstanding services for patients suffering from blood disorders.

Sundas Foundation Founder and President Muhammad Yaseen Khan (Sitara-i-Imtiaz) said thousands of patients with thalassemia and haemophilia depend on regular blood transfusions for survival. He urged individuals and institutions to actively support voluntary blood donation campaigns and contribute to saving precious lives. He also thanked the guests, participants and blood donors for their continued support to the cause.

Director Sundas Foundation Khalid Abbas Dar and Punjab Education Foundation Director Special Initiatives Nusrat Baqi also addressed the seminar, stressing the importance of encouraging youth participation in community service and voluntary blood donation initiatives.

At the conclusion of the event, Muhammad Yaseen Khan presented a commemorative shield to Chinese Consul General Sun Yan in recognition of his participation and support. The seminar ended with a renewed commitment from participants to promote voluntary blood donation and support patients living with thalassaemia, haemophilia and other blood disorders.
