Naqvi pledges continued support to strengthen KP police and CTD

PESHAWAR: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Thursday that the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments were jointly working to equip the province’s police force and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) with the resources needed to enhance their operational effectiveness, and that this support would continue.

According to a statement, Naqvi visited the Central Police Office (CPO) in Peshawar, where he laid a floral wreath at the Police Martyrs Memorial and offered fateha. During the visit, he also reviewed drones, night-vision guns and other security equipment.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed briefed the interior minister on the capabilities of the modern equipment and how it was being used. A special meeting was later held at the CPO under Naqvi’s chairmanship.

The meeting was attended by KP Chief Secretary Shahab Ali, Frontier Constabulary Commandant Nazir Gara, the head of the CTD and other senior officials. Naqvi said the KP police were serving on the front line in the fight against terrorism and added that modern weapons, technology and equipment were being supplied to the force on a priority basis.

He also said the federal government would fully back advanced counterterrorism training programmes for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and the CTD.
