Naqvi orders broad upgrade of National Police Academy facilities

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday directed wide-ranging improvements at the National Police Academy (NPA) during a visit focused on development projects and training reforms.

During the visit, Naqvi chaired a high-level meeting at the academy and reviewed several initiatives aimed at updating police training in the country. He also inspected the under-construction multi-storey hostel and examined a model room, where he issued instructions for further improvement in facilities.

The interior minister set May 31 as the deadline for completion of the Elite Police Training School project. He also announced that elite-level training for officers would now be conducted at the National Police Academy instead of provincial institutions.

Naqvi ordered the installation of a solar power system at the academy and directed a comprehensive renovation of existing buildings as part of the broader upgrade plan.

Training and classroom reforms

As part of the measures approved during the visit, the minister gave the go-ahead for three new classrooms equipped with information technology facilities. He also ordered the introduction of advanced training using drones, night-vision equipment and modern weapons to strengthen contemporary police education.

He further directed changes in promotional courses, stressing the need to align them with modern standards and improve service delivery.

Plans were also approved for a Driving School at the academy, where officers will receive training in advanced driving and car-chasing techniques.

In addition, Naqvi ordered the establishment of dedicated crime-scene rooms to improve investigative training and skills.

Sports and support facilities

In the sports segment of the academy, the interior minister instructed officials to develop padel-tennis courts. He also visited the sports complex, gymnasium and swimming pool, and issued directions for all of them to be upgraded on modern lines.

The visit covered both infrastructure and training-related matters, with the minister reviewing ongoing and planned projects intended to modernise the academy’s overall environment and instructional capacity.

The measures announced during the visit included upgrades to accommodation, classroom technology, specialist training tools, investigative learning spaces, transport-related instruction and sports facilities, alongside renewable energy installation and renovation of older structures.

According to the details shared during the visit, the changes are intended to strengthen the academy’s role in preparing police officers through updated facilities and modern training methods.
