Naqvi orders rapid upgrade of Islamabad into smart city model
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered the swift transformation of Islamabad into a ‘Smart City Model’ during a meeting at the Safe City Headquarters. Officials said 75 per cent of Phase II of the Islamabad Safe City project has been completed, with all work to be finished by May 30.

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday directed authorities to move quickly on plans to turn the federal capital into a ‘Smart City Model’, according to details shared after a special meeting held at the Safe City Headquarters.
The meeting reviewed progress on Phase II of the Islamabad Safe City project and decided that all ongoing work would be completed by May 30. Naqvi instructed officials to ensure that the project is finished within the set deadline.
During the meeting, the interior minister also said Islamabad’s Central Command and Control System would be upgraded. He said systems related to policing, traffic management and citizen services would be integrated as part of the broader plan.
Officials were told that the proposed ‘Capital Smart City’ would include modern arrangements for traffic management and crime control. Naqvi said all available resources were being used to make Islamabad a safe city.
The meeting also approved a new design for the Safe City Headquarters, adding another component to the capital’s ongoing surveillance and management infrastructure project.
Phase II progress reviewed
Inspector General of Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi briefed the meeting on the status of the Safe City project. He informed the interior minister that 75 per cent of the work under Phase II had already been completed.
The review session focused on the pace of implementation and the remaining work needed to meet the May 30 completion target set during the meeting.
According to the details discussed, the project is aimed at strengthening the capital’s monitoring, policing and traffic systems through upgraded technology and integrated services.
Senior officials attend meeting
Besides the interior minister, the meeting was attended by Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, Director General FIA Dr Usman Anwar, IG Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi, DG Safe City Haroon Joiya and other senior officials.
The session took place at the Safe City Headquarters, where officials reviewed the current status of work and approved the next steps for the project’s completion.
Naqvi reiterated during the meeting that the transformation of Islamabad into a smart city model should proceed swiftly, with authorities using all available means to improve safety, traffic regulation and citizen-facing services in the federal capital.
