ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Thursday questioned under what legal authority an entry fee is being collected for access to the New Blue Area and summoned the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad administrator to appear in person at the next hearing on June 8.
The court also directed the interior secretary, the Islamabad chief commissioner and the MCI to file their replies before the next hearing. The order was issued by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir while hearing a petition filed by Advocate Muhammad Tayyab against the imposition of the fee.
The petitioner was represented in court by advocates Zohaib Gondal and Hazrat Younas. During the proceedings, counsel for the petitioner argued that the New Blue Area includes commercial markets, corporate headquarters and restaurants, but the MCI is charging motorists Rs100 for using the service road leading into the area.
The petition challenges the legality of the charge being imposed for entry into the New Blue Area. The matter is now set to be taken up again on June 8, when the MCI administrator has been asked to appear before the court.
