LONDON: Ollie Robinson marked his return to England's Test side with a five-wicket haul as New Zealand were dismissed for 113 on the second day of the first Test at Lord's on Friday.
The Sussex fast bowler, playing his first Test in more than two years, had already jolted New Zealand on Thursday with a triple-wicket maiden during figures of 4-10 in six overs as the visitors closed on 61-6. He completed the job on Friday by bowling Matt Henry for nought, ending with career-best Test figures of 5-39 in 10.1 overs and claiming his fourth five-wicket haul.
New Zealand's total left them 27 runs short of England's first-innings 140 all out. After a first day in which 16 wickets fell, the tourists resumed with Glenn Phillips unbeaten on 31 and needing a recovery effort. But Phillips added only three more before Josh Tongue bowled him. Tongue then removed Nathan Smith for 15 after the batter offered no shot.
Kyle Jamieson, who had taken 5-62 on Thursday, provided New Zealand's main resistance. The tailender struck Tongue straight back over his head for six and later pulled Robinson for six in consecutive deliveries after the seamer dropped short. Jamieson remained unbeaten on 38, the highest score of the innings, which lasted fewer than 30 overs.
Gus Atkinson then had Will O'Rourke caught by Harry Brook in the slips before Robinson wrapped up the innings. Tongue finished with 3-40.
England then made a steady start to their second innings. Debutant Emilio Gay was unbeaten on 24 at lunch after sharing an opening stand of 52 with fellow left-hander Ben Duckett in Lord's 150th Test.
Duckett made 33 before edging Will O'Rourke to Glenn Phillips in the gully shortly before the interval. Jacob Bethell stayed in alongside Gay as England reached 72-1 at lunch, holding an overall lead of 99 runs in the opening match of the three-Test series.
