Six killed as dust storm and rain lash Shaheed Benazirabad

NAWABSHAH: Six people, including women and children, were killed when a heavy dust storm followed by rain hit Shaheed Benazirabad district late on Tuesday night, according to the district information department.

The deaths occurred in separate incidents of roof and wall collapses in different parts of the district. The bodies and injured were shifted to nearby health facilities, while a large number of the wounded were treated at Peoples Medical Hospital in Nawabshah.

The storm also brought down electricity poles and transmission lines, leaving the entire region without power during the night. Trees, solar panels and billboards were also toppled in Nawabshah city as well as Naushahro Feroze, Kandiaro, Moro, Bandhi, Daur and nearby towns. Widespread property damage was also reported.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Samad Nizamani, Mayor Qazi Rasheed Bhatti and Deputy Mayor Mubashir Arain visited the hospital, met the injured and directed that full medical facilities be provided to them.
