Man booked over unauthorised entry into Parliament House

ISLAMABAD: Police have registered a case against a man accused of entering Parliament House without authorisation, breaching security arrangements and recording a video inside the premises, according to officials.

The incident took place on May 8, but the first information report was lodged on June 1 on the complaint of Senate Sergeant-at-Arms retired Major Wajahat Afzal. The case was registered under Sections 452 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code over the alleged security breach, unauthorised entry and video recording in the Parliament House parking area.

According to the FIR, an unauthorised individual entered the Parliament House parking area through Gate 1 at 11:23am and left at 11:30am, remaining there for seven minutes. During that time, he allegedly filmed footage aimed against a member of the National Assembly. The complaint described the matter as a serious violation of parliamentary decorum and security protocol and asked police to take legal action under the relevant law for entering a restricted area and recording footage carrying derogatory remarks against the lawmaker.

Inquiry preceded registration of case

Senior police officers told Dawn, on condition of anonymity, that the Senate Secretariat held an inquiry into the matter before submitting a formal complaint for registration of the case and further legal action.

According to those officers, the man had arrived at Parliament House in a vehicle with a senator belonging to the ruling party and was allowed entry after clearance by Senate staff. They said he later remained in the parking area and made a video targeting a ruling party member of the National Assembly.

The video subsequently went viral on social media and drew the attention of the MNA concerned, who then complained to the National Assembly Secretariat, the officers said.

Police have begun efforts to identify and trace the suspect following the registration of the case.
