Punjab launches programme to bring overseas specialists to public hospitals

LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched the Punjab Health Connect Programme, an initiative aimed at improving healthcare services in public hospitals across the province by bringing in overseas Pakistani and foreign specialist doctors and surgeons.

According to the provincial government, the visiting specialists will provide free treatment at government hospitals in Punjab. In addition to delivering specialised medical care, they will also train local healthcare professionals in advanced medical techniques and modern clinical practices as part of efforts to build capacity in the provincial health sector.

The programme has been introduced on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, with the stated objective of strengthening the public healthcare system through international medical collaboration. The government says the initiative is also intended to help ease the shortage of specialist doctors in government hospitals by drawing on international expertise and experience.

Maryam Nawaz said her government was committed to providing healthcare facilities of international standards in Punjab’s public hospitals. She added that the provincial healthcare system was being transformed in line with global standards and said the Punjab Health Connect Programme would support that process by expanding access to specialist care.
