Minor 'raped' by fellow seminary students in Gujrat
Police in Gujrat said they arrested four minor students after an 11-year-old seminary pupil was allegedly assaulted by fellow students. In a separate case, Kamoke police said an escaped rape suspect was rearrested in injured condition.
GUJRAT: Police have arrested four minor students after an 11-year-old seminary pupil was allegedly sexually assaulted by fellow students at a madrassah in Kotla Qasim Khan village within the limits of Lalamusa Saddar police, according to Gujrat police and the complainant named in the case.
According to the complaint lodged by Nawaz Gujjar of Thargla village, his grandson, identified as ‘Z’, had been living and studying at the seminary in Kotla Qasim Khan village for the past year. He told police that when he visited the seminary on Sunday, the child was not in his room.
The complainant said that while searching for the boy, he heard his screams coming from another room at the seminary. He stated that after opening the door, he found one student allegedly assaulting his grandson while three others were making a video of the incident.
Police registered a case against the four suspects, all of them minors, under sections 375A and 290 of the Pakistan Penal Code and began an investigation. A spokesman for Gujrat police said Lalamusa Saddar police had arrested all four suspects, whose ages were stated to be between 13 and 16 years.
Kamoke suspect rearrested after escape
In a separate development, Kamoke Saddar police said they had arrested an injured suspect accused of attempting to rape a mentally challenged woman after he allegedly escaped from police custody.
A spokesman for Gujranwala police said the suspect, identified as ‘A’, had been in police custody in connection with the alleged attempted rape. According to the spokesman, the suspect was being taken to a location for the arrest of a co-accused when armed accomplices opened fire on the police team.
Police said that during the exchange of fire, the suspect managed to flee from the police van. A search operation was then launched, after which he was arrested in an injured condition, the spokesman said.
The police have registered a separate case against the suspect and his accomplices who escaped, and an investigation is under way.
