FAISALABAD: Police have arrested two suspects after a woman and her newborn baby died during a delivery procedure, and registered a case against five people in Batala Colony, according to police.

According to the First Information Report filed by complainant Basharat Ali, a resident of Gulshan Ali Town, his 30-year-old sister Hira was taken to a hospital for childbirth. He alleged that the suspects examined her and moved her to an operation theatre, where an injection was administered during the procedure.

The complainant stated that her condition deteriorated after the injection. She was then transported in a private ambulance to Allied Hospital-I, where she died shortly after arrival. The unborn child also did not survive. Basharat Ali alleged in the FIR that the deaths occurred because of medical negligence, which led to a protest by the family.

Batala Colony Station House Officer Zahir Akhtar said police registered a case under Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code against five suspects and arrested an alleged quack and her associate, Imran. Police officials said the two arrested individuals were allegedly unqualified medical practitioners, while efforts were under way to apprehend the remaining suspects.
