Eid cleanliness sets record as Punjab-wide operation achieves 119pc target

• Province-wide Eidul Azha sanitation operation continues under CM Maryam Nawaz’s direct oversight

• Over 222,000 tonnes of offal and waste collected in first two days, official figures show

LAHORE: Punjab’s province-wide Eidul Azha cleanliness operation, supervised by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and monitored round-the-clock from Lahore, has achieved 119 percent target and set new cleanliness benchmarks.

District administrations across the province, along with all relevant departments including Suthra Punjab teams, remained actively engaged in the field with the resolve to surpass previous benchmarks in public service delivery during the Eid sanitation drive.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz appreciated the dedication and commitment of officers and sanitation workers for continuing public service operations under intense heat conditions.

Animal offal and waste were promptly collected and disposed of, while streets, neighbourhoods, markets, intersections and roads were washed using detergent and phenyl. Rose water was also sprinkled at sacrificial sites, while lime was applied to ensure hygiene and prevent odour.

The collection and disposal of animal waste continued on the second day of Eid in Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Okara, Jhelum, Rawalpindi and other cities across Punjab.

The uninterrupted lifting of animal remains from doorsteps and designated collection points and their transportation to dumping sites remained ongoing, with Suthra Punjab teams working round the clock to clear bags containing offal and residual waste.

According to official statements, complaints received through social media and helplines were continuously monitored and addressed through immediate field action.

A two-day performance report of the cleanliness operation was also presented to the Chief Minister.

Citizens praised Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for ensuring timely disposal of offal and maintaining effective sanitation arrangements during Eidul Azha, with residents noting that the government had continued last year’s tradition of improved cleanliness management during the festive period.

Meanwhile, Punjab Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafiq visited the Suthra Punjab Central Control Room to review the ongoing Eidul Azha cleanliness operations.

During the visit, he was given a detailed briefing on sanitation arrangements and Suthra Punjab’s operational framework during Eid, while also monitoring the campaign through the central digital dashboard.

Officials briefed the minister on collection points, dumping sites and other operational aspects of the drive.

He expressed satisfaction over the performance of the Suthra Punjab cleanliness teams.

DRONE-ASSISTED DIGITAL MONITORING FOR EID CLEANLINESS OPERATION

On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, digital monitoring of the Eid cleanliness operation is being carried out by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, while drone technology is being used for “Operation Clean” for the first time in Punjab’s history.

Drone cameras have been deployed in narrow streets and suburban areas across multiple cities to monitor the presence of animal waste and offal during Eidul Azha sanitation activities.

Monitoring through Safe City cameras is also continuing in Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Pakpattan and Dera Ghazi Khan, along with several other cities.

Drone surveillance is additionally underway in Chiniot, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan and other districts to strengthen oversight of sanitation operations.

In Lahore and other cities, drone cameras are being used to identify waste accumulation in streets and neighbourhoods. Upon detection, Suthra Punjab teams are immediately dispatched to clear the affected areas.

Monitoring of waste collection points and dumping sites is also being conducted through drones and Safe City infrastructure, while the performance of sanitation workers and operational vehicles is being reviewed in real time.

New benchmarks set with 119pc target achievement

Punjab has achieved a record 119 per cent target completion during the large-scale Eidul Azha cleanliness operation, setting new sanitation benchmarks across the province over the first two days of Eid.

According to official figures, more than 222,000 tonnes of waste were collected during the first two days of Eidul Azha, while Suthra Punjab vehicles covered over 3.228 million kilometres across the province.

On the second day alone, more than 112,000 tonnes of offal and waste were disposed of under the Suthra Punjab initiative. In 41 districts, waste collection and disposal operations remained active and continuous.

Roads, bazaars and streets were washed with phenyl and fragranced with rose water. Suthra Punjab vehicles covered more than 1.346 million kilometres, while over 1,054 kilometres of roads were washed across Punjab.

On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, commissioners, deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners remained present in the field on the second day of Eid to supervise sanitation operations.

The statement added that the Punjab Safe Cities Authority used camera networks and drone technology for rapid identification and removal of offal and waste material.

Complaints regarding cleanliness and waste accumulation were addressed promptly across all districts of Punjab.

Roads and streets in Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Nankana Sahib, Okara, Rahim Yar Khan and Sargodha were reported clean, while roads in Sialkot, Kasur, Pakpattan, Murree and Vehari were washed with phenyl and scented with rose water.

Cleanliness operations in residential streets, neighbourhoods and sacrificial sites were also completed in Wazirabad, Rajanpur, Multan, Attock, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar.

Meanwhile, new sanitation benchmarks were also recorded during Eidul Azha in Bhakkar, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Chakwal.

The statement further said that the tireless efforts of Suthra Punjab workers produced visible results in Narowal, Jhelum, Jhang, Khushab, Dera Ghazi Khan, Hafizabad and Gujrat.
