 LAHORE: Punjab set multiple “new benchmarks” during its province-wide “Eidul Azha cleanliness campaign,” with more than 184,000 sanitation workers and 60,000 vehicles taking part “in what officials described” as the largest operation of its kind in the province's history.

The massive drive covered an area spanning over six million kilometres and resulted in the removal of more than 360,000 tonnes of animal waste and offal during the three days of Eid, while around 60,000 mosques, imambargahs and Eidgahs were cleaned, while rose water was sprinkled at 4,000 locations as part of sanitation and beautification efforts, according to official data.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed satisfaction over the successful execution of the Eidul Azha cleanliness campaign and commended the entire team for its efforts.

“The success of this unparalleled and historic Eidul Azha cleanliness operation is the result of outstanding teamwork,” the chief minister said, adding that an exceptional spirit of coordination, commitment and dedication was demonstrated throughout the three-day operation, said a statement issued from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

She praised the contributions of the local government minister, inspector general of police, commissioners, deputy commissioners, district administrations, director general of Suthra Punjab, managing directors of WASAs, the Safe Cities Authority team, police, Special Branch, social media teams and all participating departments.

The chief minister said all officers and personnel involved in the operation deserved appreciation for their services.

She noted that the efficient cleanliness and waste disposal arrangements, comprehensive security measures and continuous monitoring during Eidul Azha had set a new benchmark for public service delivery.

According to Maryam Nawaz, the operation provided citizens with visible relief and convenience through unprecedented cleanliness standards across the province.

The chief minister said the entire team worked in a coordinated and focused manner, demonstrating cooperation, commitment and tireless efforts round the clock.

“A highest-ever standard of cleanliness was achieved during Eidul Azha this year,” she said, adding that the operational response of the campaign had been widely appreciated at every level.

She also said officers and teams who ensured the effective implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the field during Eid deserved special recognition.

Meanwhile, Punjab achieved another historic milestone in its Eidul Azha cleanliness drive as Suthra Punjab teams collected more than 376,000 tonnes of animal waste and solid refuse during Chand Raat and the three days of Eid, surpassing the province's previous record.

The latest figure exceeded the 2025 record of 357,000 tonnes of sacrificial waste, remains and garbage collected during Eidul Azha.

According to official data, sanitation teams removed approximately 55,000 tonnes of waste on Chand Raat, 126,188 tonnes on the first day of Eid, 113,233 tonnes on the second day and 82,163 tonnes on the third day, setting a new provincial record for waste collection during the annual religious festival.
