Balochistan bans hides collection by proscribed outfits ahead of Eid

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has barred proscribed organisations from collecting sacrificial animal hides across the province ahead of Eidul Azha and warned that violations will invite strict legal action.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti to review security, sanitation and waste disposal arrangements for the Eid holidays. The meeting was attended by senior civil and law enforcement officials, including the chief secretary, inspector general of police, divisional commissioners and representatives of local government.

Eid waste disposal plan

Officials told the meeting that Quetta has been divided into five operational zones for Eid sanitation work, with 15 collection points set up for the disposal of sacrificial waste. They said an estimated 4,294 tonnes of waste are expected to be generated in the provincial capital over the three days of Eid.

According to the briefing, a comprehensive cleanliness operation has been approved and machinery as well as sanitation staff have been kept on standby to ensure timely collection and disposal of animal remains. Additional machinery will also be hired for divisional and district headquarters in other parts of the province.

Security arrangements finalised

Officials also informed the meeting that a detailed security plan has been completed for Eid congregations. In Quetta, Eid prayers are to be offered at 54 major Eidgahs and mosques, while a dedicated control room has been established to monitor the security situation and coordinate response measures.

Bugti directed divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, police officials and district administrations to maintain close coordination for the implementation of all Eid-related arrangements. He also instructed the inspector general of police to ensure foolproof security at mosques and Eidgahs throughout the province, particularly in major urban centres and district headquarters.

Public awareness drive

Emphasising sanitation during the holiday, the chief minister ordered authorities to step up public awareness efforts on proper disposal of sacrificial waste and cleanliness. He said visible improvement in sanitation and municipal services should be seen in Quetta and other major cities during Eid, and directed assistant commissioners to use mosque and Eidgah loudspeakers to seek public cooperation in the cleanliness campaign.

The provincial government said the measures are intended to provide citizens with a safe, secure and clean environment during Eidul Azha across Balochistan.
