PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed has said that police in the Bannu region are on the front line in the fight against terrorism and that meeting their security and operational requirements remains the department’s top priority.
He made the remarks while sending modern equipment to Bannu police, according to a statement issued by the police chief’s office. The statement said the move was aimed at further strengthening the force in the region.
According to the statement, modern combat equipment was dispatched to Bannu police from different districts as well as reserves held at the Central Police Office. It said 50 advanced devices had been provided, including 15 SKUA devices, 31 thermal weapon sights and 20 night-vision devices.
The statement added that Bannu police had also been given five standard quadcopters and one advanced surveillance quadcopter to improve aerial monitoring capacity. It said two anti-drone guns had also been supplied to help counter drone attacks and other aerial threats.
The police chief said the process to procure advanced thermal imaging cameras for Bannu police was in its final stage. The statement described the thermal weapon sights as effective in targeting terrorists hiding in darkness.
It further said the SKUA devices sent to Bannu were withdrawn from several districts. These included two devices each from Mardan, Charsadda, Abbottabad and Mansehra, three each from Upper Chitral and the Central Police Office reserves, and one from Haripur.
According to the statement, the thermal weapon sights were also reallocated from multiple districts before being handed over to Bannu police. Five came from Mardan, while four each were taken from Charsadda, Swabi, Swat and Buner. Two each were withdrawn from Mansehra, Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, Kolai Palas and Torghar.
The statement said the transfer of equipment formed part of efforts to reinforce Bannu police as they continue operations in a region facing militant threats.
