Gas supply hit as pipeline blown up in Dera Bugti

QUETTA: Gas supply to a wide area of Balochistan was suspended on Saturday after unidentified armed men blew up a main gas pipeline in Dera Bugti, according to police officials.

Police said explosives had been planted beneath the pipeline in the Mondrani area of Dera Bugti and were later detonated, damaging a significant section of the line. The blast disrupted gas supply to Dera Bugti, Sui and large parts of Sibi and Nasirabad districts.

Officials said the damaged line was a 26-inch-diameter main gas pipeline serving multiple areas of the province. Following the explosion, a fire erupted at the site.

Officials described the affected infrastructure and the areas linked to it. “It was a 26-inch diameter main gas pipeline supplying gas to Dera Bugti, Sui, and large areas of Sibi and Nasirabad districts,”

Engineers and staff of SSGC reached the location soon after the incident and managed to bring the fire under control.

Investigation launched

Police and security personnel arrived at the site shortly after the blast and began an investigation into the incident, officials said.

The incident took place in the Dera Bugti area, where gas infrastructure has previously come under attack, disrupting supply to surrounding districts. In this case, police specifically said unknown armed men were behind the explosion.

The blast occurred on Saturday and immediately affected supply across a vast area of the province. The fire triggered by the explosion was later controlled by SSGC personnel who rushed to the scene.

Police and security forces were stated to have launched a probe after reaching the area.

The explosion damaged a key transmission line, resulting in the suspension of gas services to several districts connected to the network. Officials said the affected pipeline was part of the main supply system for Dera Bugti, Sui, and extensive parts of Sibi and Nasirabad.
