Gas pipeline blast halts supply to Balochistan cities

SHIKARPUR: Gas supply to Quetta and several other cities in Balochistan was disrupted on Saturday after a pipeline running from Shikarpur in Sindh to Quetta exploded near Machh.

Officials from Sui Southern Gas Company confirmed the incident, saying the blast affected the Shikarpur-Quetta pipeline and suspended gas delivery to Quetta. Supply to Mastung, Pishin, and Ziarat was also impacted. Until repairs are completed, Quetta will receive gas only during meal times.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined, and authorities are investigating whether it was due to sabotage or a leakage.

The incident recalls a similar attack on August 13, 2025, when militants detonated a gas pipeline in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlighting ongoing vulnerabilities in Pakistan’s gas infrastructure.
