Three bodies recovered after flood sweeps away vehicle carrying Afghan families in Khyber

PESHAWAR: Three bodies were recovered on Monday after a vehicle carrying Afghan families returning to Afghanistan was swept away by flash floodwater in Khyber district, according to Rescue 1122.

The emergency service said the incident occurred in Landi Kotal tehsil near Sultan Khel Market, where the vehicle was caught in flooding triggered by rain. Rescue teams were sent to the area and launched a search operation soon after the report was received.

In later updates, Rescue 1122 said its divers, assisted by local residents, recovered the bodies of a man and a woman in Jamrud. The body of a child was later found in the Parang Sang area. The search for other occupants of the vehicle was continuing, the rescue service said.

During the same operation, rescue personnel also recovered the body of another man who was identified as a resident of Jamrud, according to Rescue 1122. A roof collapse in Mardan’s Kalu Dheri village was also mentioned, but no further details were provided.
