One killed, three injured in shooting at funeral in Abbottabad

ABBOTTABAD: A funeral gathering turned violent in Abbottabad when firing broke out at College Ground within the Cantonment police precinct, leaving one man dead and three others critically wounded, police said.

According to police, the shooting occurred during funeral prayers after members of two groups from Kohistan, said to be involved in a long-running dispute, came face to face and clashed. In the exchange of fire, a man identified as Qadam was killed.

Police said three other men — Ismail, Taj and Feroz — sustained critical injuries in the incident. They were shifted to Ayub Medical Complex for treatment.

Police link violence to longstanding feud

Authorities said the gunfire was linked to an old enmity between the two groups. The incident took place at a funeral, turning the gathering into a scene of chaos and bloodshed.

No further details were provided in the report about arrests or any immediate police action following the shooting.

Man drowns at Nori Waterfall

In a separate incident in Abbottabad, a man drowned at Nori Waterfall. People present at the site filmed the incident instead of trying to rescue him.

Local residents later carried out a rescue effort and recovered the body. The deceased was identified as Tasif Abbasi, son of Tariq Abbasi and a resident of Mirpur Kanj.

Authorities noted that Section 144 remains in force in the area, banning swimming and other activities near rivers, streams and waterfalls.

The restriction remains applicable at such sites in Abbottabad.

The two incidents were reported on the same day, with one involving deadly gun violence at a funeral and the other highlighting the continued risks at tourist and recreational water sites where restrictions are already in place.
