Four coaches of Sukkur Express derail near Jacobabad

SUKKUR: Four coaches of the Sukkur Express went off the tracks near Abad station in Jacobabad on Sunday, causing panic among passengers, according to local railway officials.

The train was travelling from Karachi when the incident occurred. Railway officials said the derailment happened because of a fault that developed on the tracks at Abad station. They said no one was injured in the mishap and no casualty was reported.

The sudden jerks and abrupt halt triggered fear among passengers, many of whom got off the train to find out what had happened. The situation eased after it became clear that four coaches had derailed.

Passengers shifted, restoration work launched

Officials said repair and restoration work began immediately after the accident. The district administration and railway police assisted passengers in vacating the affected coaches and also made arrangements for their onward travel.

Passengers, however, faced considerable difficulty while waiting for rail operations to be restored. The disruption came amid extremely hot weather conditions affecting most parts of Sindh, adding to the hardship for those on board.

Rail traffic on the section remained suspended until late at night as restoration efforts continued.

The incident caused chaos at the site, but authorities said the derailment did not result in any loss of life or injuries. Railway officials maintained that the accident was linked to a track fault at the station.

With assistance from the district administration and railway police, passengers were moved out of the derailed coaches after the incident. Arrangements were then made to help them continue their journey.

The Sukkur Express had been coming from Karachi when the derailment took place near Jacobabad. By late Sunday night, rail traffic on the affected sector was still disrupted as work to restore normal operations continued.
