JACOBABAD: Six bogies of the Jaffar Express were derailed on Wednesday following an explosion near a cattle market in Jacobabad.
The blast occurred while the train was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar. Initial reports confirmed that no casualties were reported among passengers, who were safely evacuated.
A senior railway officer informed PTI that by 6 pm local time, one of the derailed coaches had been re-railed, and efforts to remove the remaining five coaches from the track were ongoing. The officer added that the repair of the railway track, which was severely damaged by the explosion, would take considerable time.
Authorities are investigating the nature of the blast, with the possibility of an improvised explosive device (IED) being involved.
While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, police sources noted that terrorist groups such as Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz or the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) are often responsible for similar incidents in Sindh.
This attack follows a previous ambush of the Jaffar Express in March 2025, when BLA militants targeted the train in the Bolan area of Balochistan. The March attack resulted in the deaths of 21 passengers and four soldiers.
Senior officials and local police continue to supervise relief operations, and further updates are expected as investigations progress.
