ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Friday told the Senate that PTI founder and his spouse Bushra Bibi were being provided the “best available medical treatment” in Pakistan, while jail meetings were being conducted “strictly under court-approved procedures.”

Responding to points raised by the Leader of the Opposition and other lawmakers, the adviser said both inmates were receiving the highest standard of medical care available within the country. He added that a five-member medical board, constituted on the recommendation of PTI’s own doctors, had also “endorsed the treatment being provided.”

Sanaullah stressed that political parties must operate within democratic and peaceful boundaries, warning that actions undermining stability could not be accepted. He said the events of May 9 constituted attacks on national institutions and carried serious consequences under the law.

He further observed that repeated attempts to march on the capital and confront the state had aggravated the political environment.

Referring to jail visitation arrangements, the adviser said the matter had already been settled through proceedings before the Islamabad High Court following multiple petitions. He noted that a larger bench of the court had framed a mechanism allowing meetings twice a week, with separate days allocated for lawyers and family members, and advance submission of a list of six visitors.

He said PTI leaders, including Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, had assured the court that jail meetings would not be used for political messaging or media campaigns against state institutions. However, he alleged that the agreed understanding was later violated through press conferences, international media engagements and anti-state propaganda following these meetings.

Rana Sanaullah further stated that campaigns targeting state institutions and their leadership were also conducted abroad, adding that evidence could be presented whenever required.

He maintained that prison rules did not allow the use of jail meetings for political purposes, and restrictions were enforced only after repeated violations of agreed procedures.

On the issue of health and jail conditions of the PTI founder, the adviser said the matter had already been examined by the Supreme Court, which had sought reports from jail authorities. He added that the court had also directed lawyer Salman Safdar to independently inspect the facilities, with his findings matching the report submitted by jail authorities.

Rana Sanaullah also remarked that, in his view, the Rules of Business of Parliament did not permit the formation of a committee to interfere in executive matters relating to prison administration.

Later, the Senate session was adjourned to meet again on Monday at 5:00 p.m.

Talal Ch rejects ‘misleading propaganda’ about PTI founder’s health

In relared development, State Minister for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry on Friday strongly rejected what he described as “misleading and baseless propaganda” regarding the health of the PTI founder, saying the claims circulating on social media are “contrary to verified medical facts.”

In a detailed statement posted on his social media platform X, Senator Chaudhry wrote: “The misleading propaganda about the PTI founder’s health is completely against the facts. A senior medical board comprising specialists — including eye specialists, cardiologists, ENT experts, dental surgeons, and others — examines him regularly. All treatment is conducted strictly under international medical standards.

He further stated that the PTI founder underwent multiple eye treatments at PIMS Islamabad under the supervision of specialists, and after treatment, his vision was reported as 6/6, confirming that the procedure was successful.

Senator Chaudhry noted that even the Supreme Court of Pakistan had expressed satisfaction with the comprehensive medical report submitted by the jail superintendent.

“The reality is that perhaps no prisoner in Pakistan’s history has received such facilities. His eye has not been damaged. Stop trying to deceive the nation. When protests, arson, and politics of chaos failed, a sympathy card is now being played,” he wrote on X.

The minister reiterated that the public should not be misled by politically motivated misinformation and that the medical facts speak for themselves.
