Constable injured in Charsadda checkpost attack succumbs to wounds
A constable wounded in an April 22 attack on the Azizabad checkpost in Charsadda has died of his injuries, police said. Funeral prayers were held with official honours at Police Lines Charsadda.

CHARSADDA: A police constable who was critically wounded in an attack on a checkpost in Charsadda last month died of his injuries late Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.
Charsadda police spokesperson Safiullah said Constable Sajjad Khan was injured on April 22 when unidentified militants targeted the Azizabad checkpost with explosive material. He said the constable had been shifted to hospital in critical condition and remained under treatment before embracing martyrdom.
Safiullah said funeral prayers for the slain constable were offered on Thursday morning at Police Lines Charsadda with official honours. He said a police contingent presented a salute to the martyr and floral wreaths were placed on the coffin.
According to the police spokesperson, District Police Officer Mohammad Waqas Khan, Superintendent Police Investigation Alamzeb Khan, Deputy Superintendent Police Headquarters Anwar Khan, Counter Terrorism Department DSP Jamshed Khan, relatives of the deceased and a large number of local residents attended the funeral prayers.
DPO Mohammad Waqas Khan paid tribute to the constable’s sacrifice and said the sacrifices made by police personnel in the war against terrorism would not go in vain. He said the police force had consistently remained on the frontline in efforts to maintain peace and fight militancy, adding that the constable’s courage and commitment would be remembered for a long time.
Rising violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has seen an increase in militant violence over the past year. According to the Annual Security Report 2025 issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, fatalities in the province increased from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.
The latest development comes days after other major attacks in the province. On Tuesday, nine people, including two traffic policemen, were martyred and 33 others were injured in a blast in Serai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat district.
Earlier, on Saturday night, 15 police officers were martyred and three others were wounded when terrorists rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the Fateh Khel police post in Bannu district. The assault was followed by attacks from multiple directions involving heavy weaponry and drones.
The death of Constable Sajjad Khan adds to the toll from recent attacks targeting police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where law enforcement personnel have repeatedly come under assault in different districts.
