ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said that all available resources would be mobilized to enhance the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property across the country.
Chairing a high-level meeting to review the law and order situation and matters related to the Ministry of Interior, the prime minister directed strict enforcement of the government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption within law enforcement institutions.

He emphasized that recruitment across all departments under the Interior Ministry, including the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), must be carried out strictly on merit, without any exception or compromise.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Mohsin Naqvi, Ahsan Iqbal, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, as well as heads of various law enforcement agencies, according to a press release issued by the PM Office Media Wing.

Highlighting emerging security challenges, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that modern policing requires advanced training, professional skills and updated operational capabilities to effectively respond to evolving threats.
He directed that law enforcement personnel be equipped with modern technology, advanced tools and high-quality operational resources to improve efficiency and strengthen internal security mechanisms.
During the briefing, officials informed the meeting that the under-construction jail in Islamabad is expected to become operational in September this year, marking a significant addition to the country’s correctional infrastructure.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed the meeting on the performance and future development plans of key institutions including the FIA, Islamabad Police, National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Federal Constabulary, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and other bodies working under the Interior Ministry.
PM directs nationwide modern solid waste management system
In a related development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday also directed authorities to introduce a modern and sustainable solid waste management (SWM) system across the country in coordination with provincial governments.

Chairing a separate meeting on solid waste management, the prime minister ordered the formulation of a comprehensive national roadmap for generating electricity from solid waste as part of Pakistan’s broader transition towards renewable and environment-friendly energy solutions, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office.
He also directed the establishment of a dedicated task force to prepare a detailed action plan for converting solid waste into energy.

The prime minister said the task force would develop practical recommendations in line with modern technology and international best practices to ensure an efficient and sustainable system.
He further instructed that representatives from the private sector and internationally recognized experts be included in the task force to enhance effectiveness and ensure result-oriented outcomes.
PM Shehbaz said that producing energy from solid waste would reduce dependence on imported fuel and help conserve valuable foreign exchange reserves.
He added that an improved and integrated waste management system would also significantly reduce the country’s carbon footprint and contribute to long-term sustainable development goals.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari, along with advisers Rana Sanaullah and Muhammad Ali, as well as senior officials from relevant departments and institutions.
