Imran Khan’s sisters and KP CM denied jail meeting, warn of sit-in

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan’s sisters, along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, were again not allowed to meet him at Adiala jail on Tuesday, prompting renewed criticism from the party and a warning of a sit-in.

Speaking to reporters, Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan said the refusal to allow the meeting amounted to contempt of court. She said the family was still being prevented from seeing the former premier despite what she described as clear directions from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that family meetings should be arranged every Tuesday and Thursday.

nothing but contempt of court

When asked about the possibility of a protest sit-in, Aleema Khan said that during their previous visit, a police officer had asked them to leave and assured them that the same request would not be made the next time she came to the prison.

I want to hold a sit-in throughout the night

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said he had come to Rawalpindi at Aleema Khan’s invitation and called on parliamentarians from across the country to express solidarity with Imran Khan’s sisters.

These people are shameless. They have paralysed the whole system after the constitutional amendment

It is unfortunate that the judiciary is also paralysed. Now we have been left with only one option: to go on the streets.

PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja said the last meeting with Imran Khan had taken place in December and involved one of his sisters, describing the situation as unacceptable. He added that consultations within the party were continuing.

Two days ago, there was also a meeting with the sisters in Lahore. These are difficult and emotionally charged times. We will move forward with wisdom

PTI criticises ban on Gilgit Baltistan party

Separately, PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram criticised the federal government and the Election Commission of Gilgit Baltistan over the banning of the Gilgit Baltistan Democratic Party, which had entered into an electoral alliance with PTI for the 2026 elections.

In a statement, Akram said the move was aimed at undermining democracy in Gilgit Baltistan ahead of the upcoming general elections. He described the decision as political victimisation and said it had targeted a platform that sought to represent the people of the region through its alliance with PTI.

This is not governance; this is naked political vendetta and the systematic murder of democracy

He further said the action was in violation of constitutional and democratic principles, arguing that the Constitution guarantees political parties the right to organise, contest elections and reach voters.

Any attempt to suppress a party solely on the basis of its ideological or political affiliation is a criminal negation of democratic principles and a betrayal of the state’s constitutional responsibilities

Akram also called for the ban to be withdrawn immediately and unconditionally. He said the electoral process must be fully transparent and all political parties should be given equal opportunities and a level playing field. He added that the Election Commission must discharge its constitutional responsibilities impartially and without pressure from the federal government.
