ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday ordered an inquiry into an attack in Toba Tek Singh that left Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Col (retd) Sardar Ayub Gadhi injured and four of his aides dead.

According to the reported details, the incident took place on Sunday night when Gadhi was sitting with friends at his outhouse, or dera, in Chak 184-GB. Unidentified gunmen then opened indiscriminate fire, resulting in multiple casualties.

In a statement issued on Monday, the prime minister expressed deep concern over the incident and strongly condemned the attack. He directed the relevant authorities to complete the inquiry swiftly so that those responsible could be identified and brought to justice.

Shehbaz Sharif described Gadhi as one of the PML-N’s hardworking workers and said the attack on the lawmaker while he was listening to public grievances was extremely concerning.

The prime minister also offered prayers for those who were killed in the shooting and for the recovery of the injured.

Victims identified

Those killed in the attack on Sunday night were identified as Zaigham Abbas, 41, Nadim Noor, 45, Khaliqdad, 49, and one more aide. Gadhi was among those injured in the firing.

The attack took place in Toba Tek Singh district, where the MPA was present at his dera at the time of the shooting. The assailants were described as unidentified gunmen.
