29 years on, Punjab Police remembers SSP Ashraf Marth Shaheed’s sacrifice
Punjab Police marks the 29th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed SSP Ashraf Marth, killed in a 1997 Gujranwala attack. IGP Abdul Kareem pays tribute, while the force reports Rs874m in welfare spending.

IGP says officers like Ashraf Marth are pride of Punjab Police
LAHORE: On the 29th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed SSP Ashraf Marth, Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem paid rich tribute to the fallen officer, stating that brave and dutiful officers like SSP Ashraf Marth Shaheed are the pride of Punjab Police.
He said that SSP Ashraf Marth Shaheed, through exemplary performance of duties and outstanding leadership qualities, attained a distinguished position during his service. The IG added that Punjab Police will never forget the sacrifices of its brave martyrs like SSP Ashraf Marth Shaheed.
Providing details, a Punjab Police spokesperson said that SSP Ashraf Marth was martyred on the morning of May 06, 1997, in Gujranwala when unidentified assailants opened fire on him. Following his martyrdom, the Gujranwala Police Lines were named in his honour.
Punjab Police continues welfare initiatives for force and families
Meanwhile, Punjab Police continues to strengthen welfare measures for its personnel and their families. In continuation of these efforts, more than Rs874 million have been spent on the welfare of police employees and their families during the current year.
According to details shared by the Punjab Police spokesperson, more than Rs268 million were disbursed under educational scholarships for the children of police employees.
Similarly, more than Rs240 million were provided as wedding gifts to daughters of police personnel, while over Rs135 million were released to support medical treatment for police employees and their families.
More than Rs113 million were also disbursed as retirement grants to police employees.
The spokesperson further said that under the maintenance allowance scheme, more than Rs88 million were provided to families of police employees. In addition, Rs21 million were released for funeral expenses, while over Rs6 million were given as immediate financial assistance to serving personnel.
