QUETTA: The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has stepped up action against unsafe and substandard food in Quetta and Gwadar, sealing three illegal water filtration plants and imposing fines on dozens of food businesses, according to officials.
The operations were part of a wider campaign aimed at ensuring the availability of safe and quality food for the public. Officials said the drive also included corrective notices issued to 19 businesses.
In Quetta, authorities sealed three water filtration plants for producing and supplying unregistered bottled water in the open market. During the same crackdown, fines were imposed on 20 food and beverage outlets over various violations.
BFA inspection teams carried out detailed checks at food outlets, hotels, shops and water plants. During these inspections, they reviewed sanitation arrangements, assessed food quality and examined compliance with hygiene requirements.
BFA Director General Habibullah Khan said the authority was continuing its efforts to safeguard consumers’ health and would act against violations of the law.
“The authority is taking all possible measures to protect public health and will not tolerate any negligence or violation of the law,” BFA Director General Habibullah Khan said.
Crackdown covers Quetta and Gwadar
Officials said the large-scale operations were conducted in both Quetta and Gwadar as part of an intensified enforcement campaign. Along with sealing illegal facilities and fining businesses, the authority also served notices to 19 establishments, directing them to address shortcomings.
The action focused on food safety and hygiene standards across a range of businesses. Inspection teams visited eateries and other food-related premises to check whether they were meeting required standards for cleanliness and food handling.
The BFA said the purpose of the campaign was to ensure that consumers are provided safe and quality food. The latest action included enforcement against unregistered bottled water production as well as violations found at food and beverage establishments.
Officials did not provide further details in the report about the specific violations committed by the businesses in Gwadar, but said the crackdown covered both districts and formed part of a broader effort against unsafe food practices.
The authority’s latest operations underline an ongoing focus on sanitation, food quality and legal compliance in the food sector, with officials saying enforcement measures would continue against businesses found violating regulations.
