ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed said on Wednesday that Interpol had issued Red Notices for Bahria Town founder Malik Riaz and his son Ali Riaz.
The NAB chief made the announcement while speaking to reporters at the bureau’s headquarters. At the end of the briefing, he said, “Today I am giving you breaking news that Interpol has issued a red notice against Malik Riaz and Ali Riaz.”
A Red Notice is a request circulated by Interpol to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal proceedings.
NAB briefing
During the media interaction, Nazir Ahmed also acknowledged the difficulty of securing Malik Riaz’s return to Pakistan. The NAB chairman admitted during the briefing that bringing Riaz back to the country was not an easy task.
Malik Riaz, 72, is the founder and chairman of Bahria Town, while his son Ali Riaz, 48, serves as the company’s chief executive.
Malik Riaz is currently living in the United Arab Emirates, where he has launched a multi-billion-dollar housing project.
Who is named in the notices
The NAB chief specifically named both Malik Riaz and Ali Riaz in his remarks. His statement linked the Red Notices to the two senior Bahria Town figures, identifying the father as the property group’s founder and chairman and the son as its chief executive.
“Today I am giving you breaking news that Interpol has issued a red notice against Malik Riaz and Ali Riaz,” he said at the conclusion of the briefing.
The announcement marks a significant development in the accountability watchdog’s pursuit of the property tycoon and his son.
The remarks were delivered publicly at NAB headquarters as part of a press briefing by the bureau’s chairman, placing the claim on the official record through the head of Pakistan’s anti-corruption watchdog.
