DUBAI: Dubai Police have seized about 10 motorcycles and started legal proceedings against a group of young riders accused of carrying out hazardous stunts on public roads, according to authorities.
Police said the riders were filmed travelling on one wheel and moving between vehicles, conduct that authorities said created a major risk to public safety and endangered lives on the road.
Videos shared by Dubai Police showed the motorcyclists engaging in reckless riding, with many of those involved believed to be young riders performing stunt manoeuvres on busy roads.
Legal action initiated
Authorities said cases had been registered against the individuals involved and added that firm enforcement would continue against anyone found breaching traffic regulations.
The police action comes as officials move to curb dangerous behaviour on roads that could put both riders and other motorists at risk. The authorities said the conduct seen in the videos amounted to a serious threat because of the way the motorcycles were being ridden in active traffic.
Parents urged to monitor children
Dubai Police also called on parents to keep a close watch on their children’s activities and to help build awareness about road safety.
Authorities warned that such actions on public roads could result in severe accidents or even fatalities. The police said they would continue taking strict action against traffic violations of this nature.
The development follows the circulation of footage released by Dubai Police showing the riders performing dangerous stunts in traffic. Officials said the behaviour demonstrated in the videos was reckless and posed risks not only to the riders themselves but also to other road users.
By impounding the motorcycles and opening cases against those involved, Dubai Police signalled that violations involving stunt riding and unsafe driving on public roads would be dealt with under the law. Authorities reiterated their warning that dangerous riding practices can have deadly consequences and stressed the importance of greater vigilance by families in preventing such incidents.
