Firdous Jamal targets late legends in industry-wide diss

Actor Firdous Jamal is no stranger to controversy, but his latest unfiltered assessment of the "Golden Era" legends has crossed a line for many. In a series of biting remarks, Jamal didn't just critique the work of his peers—he essentially dismantled their professional identities, labeling some of the most respected names in Pakistani history as "untrained," "monotonous," and even "selfish."

While Jamal has a history of targeting modern stars like Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed, this pivot toward the deceased legends of PTV has sparked a massive wave of backlash from both the public and the artistic community.

Jamal’s commentary spared almost no one, targeting the very foundations of his contemporaries' crafts:

  • Talat Hussain: Jamal dismissed the late maestro’s performances as "monotonous" and filled with "cheap theatricalities." In a particularly sharp jab, he added that Talat was never inspiring to him—leading social media users to point out that Talat likely wasn't acting specifically to "inspire" Firdous.

  • Khayyam Sarhadi: Perhaps the harshest critique was reserved for Sarhadi. Jamal described him as "untrained" and "unorthodox," claiming he didn't understand basic punctuation in stylized acting. "He did theater and called that acting, but we called it madness (pagalpan)," Jamal remarked.

  • Abid Ali: Labeled as "selfish" and a limited "type" performer who lacked the breadth required for true greatness.

  • Rahat Kazmi: Bluntly reduced to being a "showpiece" rather than a performer of substance.

  • Shafi Muhammad: While acknowledging his natural ability, Jamal claimed he "lacked craft," suggesting his success was more accidental than technical.

This latest outburst has forced a conversation about the difference between honest critique and disrespect. Firdous Jamal, who has previously faced bans and industry-wide condemnation for misogynist and ageist comments, seems to be leaning into a persona of the "last true actor" left standing. Many fans pointed out that while Jamal calls others "self-centered," his habit of dismissing every single peer as inferior suggests a massive ego others called it the usual ploy for ratings once no one wants to work with you.

"He is definitely suffering with some mental health issues. He has done some good work which seems to have gone to his head making him think of himself better than everyone else," one commenter noted.

As Jamal continues to rate everyone else poorly, many are now asking how his peers would have rated him. While undoubtedly a good performer, critics argue his "bluntness" is increasingly overshadowing his legacy.
