ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday underscored the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and sustained engagement to resolve ongoing issues in the Middle East and Gulf region, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace, stability and constructive engagement during telephonic conversations with his Iranian, Egyptian, Canadian and Polish counterparts, the Foreign Office (FO) said.

In a statement on X, the FO said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a detailed telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which both sides stressed that continued dialogue and engagement were essential for the timely resolution of current issues and for promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond.

The statement added that both leaders agreed to remain in close contact and also concurred on a possible phone call later in the day between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The development came as US President Donald Trump signalled a new round of talks in Islamabad, saying American representatives would travel to the capital for the second round of negotiations with Iran aimed at addressing the Middle East crisis. In a post on Truth Social, he said, “My representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan — they will be there tomorrow evening, for negotiations.”

The DPM/FM also held talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, with the FO saying the two leaders reviewed key regional developments, including the situation in Gaza.

Dar reiterated Pakistan’s position that dialogue and diplomacy remain essential tools for resolving all disputes, while reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, stability and constructive engagement.

Both sides expressed hope for a successful next round of Iran–US talks aimed at achieving durable peace in the region and beyond, and agreed to remain in close contact, the FO added.

Separately, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran during a telephone call with Ishaq Dar.

In its statement, the FO said both sides acknowledged the positive momentum in Pakistan–Poland relations and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

They also held an in-depth exchange of views on regional and global developments.

FM Sikorski commended Pakistan’s role in facilitating a ceasefire between Iran and the United States and appreciated its continued emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy for regional peace and stability.

In another call, DPM/FM Ishaq Dar spoke with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand to review evolving regional developments.

According to the FO, FM Anand appreciated and supported Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote sustained dialogue and constructive engagement between relevant parties.

Both sides expressed hope for lasting peace and a durable ceasefire across the region, including in Lebanon, while reaffirming commitment to broader regional stability and cooperation.

Earlier developments cited by the FO noted that a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire between the United States and Iran came into effect on April 8 following hostilities that began on February 28. Pakistan subsequently hosted high-level US–Iran talks, which ended without agreement last weekend but kept the ceasefire intact. A second round of talks is expected in the coming week, though no official date has been confirmed.

Iranian officials have meanwhile said negotiations remain ongoing, with gaps still to be bridged before any agreement framework is finalised, while international diplomatic exchanges continue amid efforts to sustain the ceasefire and avoid further escalation in the region.
