Suspect in Lahore scooty robbery case injured in police 'encounter'

LAHORE: A man identified by police as one of the suspects in the robbery of a young woman riding a scooty in Lahore was arrested after being injured in what officials described as a police encounter.

According to police, the suspect was taken into custody after an exchange of fire during an operation linked to the robbery case that had drawn public attention following the circulation of a video of the incident on social media.

Police said the robbery took place in Lahore when a girl travelling on a scooty was intercepted and deprived of her belongings. The incident was captured on video and widely shared online, prompting criticism and concern over street crime in the city.

Officials said law enforcement traced the suspects and moved to arrest them. During the operation, one of the suspects was injured and later apprehended. Police described the incident as an encounter and said action was being taken in connection with the case.

The authorities said the arrested man was believed to be involved in the robbery of the scooty-riding girl. He was shifted for medical treatment after sustaining injuries.
