Cattle show at Karachi Expo Centre triggers widespread traffic congestion

KARACHI: A large number of visitors heading to the cattle show at the Expo Centre caused major traffic disruption in surrounding parts of the city, leaving commuters caught in long queues and slow-moving traffic.

According to a traffic police spokesperson, the congestion intensified because entry to the event was free, drawing an unusually high turnout. The spokesperson also said that many pedestrians were crossing busy roads in the area, which further affected the flow of vehicles.

Traffic remained particularly disturbed on the route from Liaquatabad No 10 towards Hasan Square. Vehicle movement was also severely slowed at the Liaquatabad and Ghareebabad underpasses, where motorists faced lengthy delays.

Traffic police personnel were deployed to manage the situation and regulate movement on the affected roads.

Multiple roads affected

Severe gridlock was also reported from the Stadium Flyover to Hasan Square Flyover and onward to Liaquatabad, with long lines of vehicles stretching across these corridors.

Other major roads and intersections, including University Road, Karsaz Road, Lasbela, Patel Para and Gurumandir, also witnessed heavy congestion, creating difficulties for the public and adding to commuting time in several parts of Karachi.

The heavy influx of visitors to the cattle show led to widespread inconvenience for citizens travelling through the area, as traffic pressure built up across multiple connected routes.

The traffic police spokesperson linked the worsening situation to the unusually high attendance at the event and the movement of pedestrians across busy roads, both of which contributed to slower traffic flow.

With several major arteries affected at the same time, motorists experienced prolonged delays in and around the Expo Centre and adjoining neighbourhoods. The disruption extended well beyond the immediate vicinity of the venue, affecting a broader network of roads used by daily commuters.

The traffic build-up was visible across central and eastern parts of the city, particularly on routes feeding into Hasan Square and Liaquatabad. Authorities remained engaged in traffic management as congestion persisted in the affected areas.
