Traffic congestion intensifies in major cities as Eid shopping season begins

KARACHI: With the commencement of Eid shopping, major commercial areas in Karachi are experiencing severe traffic congestion, according to a recent report. The situation has been exacerbated by the increasing number of vehicles and widespread encroachments in key shopping districts.

The report highlights that popular markets such as Saddar, Tariq Road, Hyderi, and Bahadurabad have seen a significant influx of shoppers, resulting in gridlocked roads and long delays for commuters. The presence of illegal stalls and makeshift shops on footpaths and roadsides has further narrowed the available space for vehicles, making movement even more challenging.

Traffic police officials have acknowledged the difficulties faced by both motorists and pedestrians. They stated that efforts are being made to manage the situation, including the deployment of additional personnel and the implementation of special traffic plans for the Eid season. However, the sheer volume of vehicles and the persistence of encroachments continue to hamper smooth traffic flow.
