KARACHI: As Eid approaches, shopping activity in Karachi has intensified, with shoppers flocking to markets in search of the latest fashion trends. This year, 'Kashmiri' bangles and flowing kaftans have emerged as the most sought-after items among Eid shoppers.
At Jama Cloth Market, bangle shops have seen a significant increase in demand for 'Kashmiri' bangles, which are predominantly metallic in gold or silver hues and adorned with small bells that create a jingling sound. Despite their name, a salesman at Jama Cloth Market clarified that these bangles do not originate from Kashmir. He explained, “These things spread through social media now. India copied the bangles style from Nepal and we brought it here and now everyone wants them.”
The popularity of these bangles has been largely attributed to trends circulating on social media platforms, which have influenced local fashion preferences. Last year, the Farshi shalwar was the most popular item for Eid, but this year, the focus has shifted to these distinctive bangles and kaftans.
In addition to bangles, flowing kaftans have also become a favored choice for many women preparing for Eid celebrations. Footwear stalls and clothing markets, such as the Saddar Cooperative Market, are witnessing a steady stream of customers, with men shopping for shalwar kameez for Eid prayers and women seeking the latest accessories to complete their festive outfits.
Vendors and shopkeepers are working to meet the heightened demand, ensuring that the most popular items are well-stocked in anticipation of the final rush before Eid. The festive atmosphere in Karachi’s markets reflects the excitement and enthusiasm of shoppers as they prepare for the upcoming celebrations.
