PAA extends fuel carriage notice for airlines until April 30

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has extended until April 30 a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) permitting airlines flying to and from Pakistan to carry larger quantities of fuel from abroad.

According to the authority, the measure has been continued in view of ongoing operational concerns tied to the regional situation in the Middle East as well as constraints in fuel supply.

The extension comes as disruptions and logistical difficulties in the availability of jet fuel one continue, prompting aviation authorities to keep special operating arrangements in place for international carriers.

The latest decision follows earlier directions issued by the PAA to help airlines manage fuel planning while operating through Pakistan during a period of regional uncertainty.

Officials said the revised NOTAM prolongs those arrangements further to support uninterrupted flight operations and lower potential operational risks.

Operational measure remains in place

The notice allows airlines operating on routes to and from Pakistan to uplift higher fuel volumes from foreign locations, a step linked by the PAA to current operational requirements.

The authority said the continuation of the arrangement is aimed at helping carriers navigate the challenges created by the regional environment and fuel-related constraints.

The move reflects the aviation sector’s effort to maintain regular flight activity amid continued pressure on jet fuel availability and associated logistics.

Officials said the extension is part of the same framework introduced earlier by the authority, with the latest notice keeping those provisions effective through April 30.

The PAA’s decision indicates that the authority considers the existing circumstances significant enough to warrant the continuation of special fuel planning measures for airlines using Pakistani airports.

Earlier directives extended

The authority had previously issued directives to address airline fuel planning needs during the ongoing period of uncertainty. With the latest extension, those measures will remain in force for a longer period.

The PAA linked the decision to the need for continuity in flight operations and the reduction of operational risk for carriers serving Pakistan. Officials said the updated NOTAM further prolongs these arrangements in order to ensure continuity of flight operations and reduce potential operational risks.

The extension keeps in place a temporary operational facility that aviation authorities have used in response to the combined impact of regional developments in the Middle East and fuel supply limitations affecting airline operations connected with Pakistan.
