Naqvi, FIA chief order prompt complaint handling, transparent probes during Karachi visit

KARACHI: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Dr Usman Anwar on Friday directed officials to ensure timely resolution of complaints and transparent investigations during a visit to the FIA Karachi Zone.

The minister and the FIA chief carried out a detailed inspection of different departments during the visit. They were briefed by the director of the FIA Karachi Zone and the additional director general (South) on ongoing complaints, inquiries and significant cases.

The two senior officials also reviewed the performance of all circles and stressed that public grievances should be addressed on a priority basis.

Focus on performance and staff welfare

The visit also included discussion on the welfare of FIA officers and staff. During the briefing, attention was given to measures linked to employee wellbeing as well as institutional performance.

Dr Anwar said the promotion system was being improved further to support the professional development of officers. He also issued directions regarding medical tests for officers and staff and the provision of additional medical facilities.

The FIA director general also underscored the need to improve the agency’s overall performance, saying additional resources would be provided on the basis of better performance.

The director of the FIA Karachi Zone assured the visiting officials that public issues would be dealt with transparently and on merit at every level, and said the institution’s performance would be improved further.

Naqvi’s earlier remarks on FIA reforms

The development comes days after Naqvi said he wanted to turn the FIA into a modern, dynamic and effective institution by December 31.

Speaking at a special conference of FIA officers on Monday, the interior minister said there would be zero tolerance for corruption and that a system of reward and punishment would be introduced.

If you stand for truth and justice, the government will stand with you, the minister said.

Naqvi said honest officers would be given full protection and job security, while strict action would be taken against those involved in corruption.

He also said Dr Anwar had recently assumed charge as FIA director general and that the agency would be made a vibrant institution under his leadership.

The Karachi visit formed part of the broader push outlined by the interior minister for improving the agency’s functioning, with emphasis on complaint redressal, transparent investigations, staff welfare and performance-based institutional strengthening.
