Naqvi unveils major overhaul plan to transform FIA into high-tech agency by 2026

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday announced an ambitious modernization roadmap for the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), setting December 31, 2026 as the deadline to transform it into a “high-tech, premier” law enforcement institution.

Speaking as the chief guest at a special conference for FIA officers in Islamabad, Naqvi held detailed discussions with newly appointed assistant directors and inspectors, outlining a sweeping reform agenda aimed at improving operational efficiency and institutional performance.

He said that under the leadership of Director General Dr Usman Anwar, the agency was expected to move beyond legacy inefficiencies and adopt a more proactive and technology-driven approach to law enforcement.

Describing the FIA as a key pillar of the government’s “Hardening the State” policy, the interior minister said it remained the only federal body capable of enforcing state authority across the country. He stressed the need to expand its manpower, noting that the agency’s current strength had remained largely unchanged since 2008 and was no longer sufficient to meet modern security and investigative challenges.

Naqvi pledged increased recruitment and promised improved welfare measures for FIA personnel. These include residential plot allocations for families of martyrs, expanded healthcare and education support, and a revised service structure to ensure timely promotions, which he termed the “right of every employee.”

While assuring full government backing in terms of resources and infrastructure, the minister also issued a strict warning against corruption within the agency. He declared a zero-tolerance policy for internal misconduct, saying accountability would be strictly enforced once enhanced facilities were provided.

“If you stand for truth and justice, the government will stand with you,” he said, while assuring honest officers of complete protection and job security.

The conference was also attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, and DG FIA Dr Usman Anwar, who briefed participants on upcoming strategic reforms and institutional changes within the agency.
