Sindh reviews 23 land encroachment cases, home minister vows action

KARACHI: The Sindh government has reviewed progress on action against land encroachments, illegal occupations and related public complaints at the fourth meeting of a special committee chaired by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar.

According to officials who briefed the meeting, a total of 23 cases have so far been placed before the committee. Of these, four have been resolved, while the remaining matters were discussed in detail and directions were issued for their early settlement.

The meeting examined steps aimed at protecting citizens, traders and the wider business community from land grabbers, encroachment groups and illegal occupations. The committee had been formed specifically to provide relief to traders, investors and the public facing such issues, Lanjar said during the session.

He instructed the relevant authorities to immediately register cases involving illegal occupation and said those found responsible should be arrested without delay.

Lanjar said such groups not only deprive citizens of their rights but also obstruct the province’s economic growth. He said the provincial government considers the resolution of business community issues, the protection of investment and the maintenance of a business-friendly environment among its top priorities.

Progress report presented to committee

Officials presented a progress report during the meeting, outlining the status of complaints brought before the body. Four of the 23 cases had been successfully settled. The rest were taken up for detailed consideration, after which the committee issued instructions for prompt follow-up and resolution.

The review formed part of the Sindh government’s broader effort to address complaints linked to encroachments and unlawful occupation of land. The meeting focused on measures intended to safeguard the interests of the public as well as traders and investors affected by such disputes.

Government links anti-encroachment drive to business climate

During the meeting, Lanjar said the purpose of the committee was to offer relief to the business community and the public from land grabbers. He said action against illegal occupation was necessary not only to protect individual rights but also to support investment and economic activity in the province.

He reiterated that the government would not show tolerance toward land grabbers and said immediate legal action should be taken in such cases. He added that ensuring a conducive environment for business and protecting investment remained key priorities for the Sindh government.
