KARACHI: Two young girls were killed and a boy injured after they fell from a motorcycle and were run over by a passing oil tanker in Nazimabad No 1 late on Monday night, rescue officials said.
Police said the tanker did not collide directly with the motorcycle. Initial findings suggest the accident occurred when the motorcycle lost balance due to a broken stretch of road, causing the passengers to fall onto the street.
“As per initial information, both sisters fell from the motorcycle due to a damaged road and came under a tanker passing alongside,” SSP Central said.
The tanker driver initially fled the scene but was later arrested, and the vehicle was taken into police custody.
The injured boy sustained minor injuries, while the motorcycle itself was not significantly damaged, police said.
Rescue officials said the victims were shifted to a nearby hospital, where both girls were pronounced dead before receiving treatment.
Police identified the deceased as Easter and Angel, while the tanker driver was identified as Maroof Shah.
The incident has once again drawn attention to road safety concerns in Karachi, particularly the movement of heavy vehicles through residential areas.
Residents have repeatedly raised concerns over accidents involving heavy traffic, which they say continue to occur due to poor enforcement and road conditions.
