ISLAMABAD: President of the Pakistan Sports Writers Federation Amjad Aziz Malik has been elected a Lifetime Honorary Member of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), in what has been described as a landmark recognition for Pakistan’s sports media community.
The honour was awarded during the 88th AIPS Congress in Lausanne, Switzerland, where representatives from 111 countries participated. The recognition was given to Malik for his long-standing services to AIPS.
Alongside Malik, five other senior sports journalists from Japan, Spain, Malta, Brazil and Turkey were also granted Lifetime Honorary Membership. They were recognised for rendering outstanding services to AIPS for more than a decade.
Malik is the first Pakistani sports journalist to receive the distinction in the 102-year history of AIPS. The development marks a notable first for Pakistan in the international sports journalism body and reflects recognition of his contribution to the field.
Recognition at global sports media forum
The AIPS Congress is a major gathering of sports media representatives from around the world, and this year’s edition brought together delegates from 111 countries in Lausanne. During the event, AIPS conferred honorary lifetime memberships on a select group of veteran journalists.
Malik’s inclusion among the six honourees placed Pakistan alongside countries including Japan, Spain, Malta, Brazil and Turkey in this year’s list of recipients.
The award acknowledged not only Malik’s personal services but also represented a historic moment for sports journalism in Pakistan. His election as a Lifetime Honorary Member is being seen as a significant milestone for the country’s sports writers.
Congratulatory message
Pakistan Sports Writers Federation Secretary Muhammad Asghar Azeem congratulated Malik on the achievement. He extended heartfelt congratulations to the federation president over the honour.
Malik’s recognition comes as the first such honour for a Pakistani sports journalist since the founding of AIPS 102 years ago, underlining the significance of the development for Pakistan’s representation in the international sports press community.
The award was announced at the 88th congress of the global body in Switzerland, where veteran journalists with more than 10 years of outstanding service to AIPS were honoured through Lifetime Honorary Membership.
