Wanted suspect in 44 cases killed in police encounter in Jaranwala

FAISALABAD: A wanted suspect allegedly involved in 44 criminal cases was killed in what police described as an encounter in the Sadar Jaranwala area, according to police on Saturday.

Police said the operation was carried out after the station house officer, accompanied by additional police personnel, pursued the suspects and eventually surrounded them near a bridge in Chak 122 GB.

According to the police account, the suspects had taken cover in nearby bushes. Police said they ordered the men to surrender, but the suspects instead resorted to indiscriminate firing.

Police further said that one of the suspects was injured during the exchange of fire. He was being transported to hospital, but died from his injuries on the way, police added.

Police said the deceased suspect was wanted in 44 criminal cases. They also said a police constable who had been injured in a recent incident was linked to the suspect.

No further details about the suspect’s identity, the nature of the cases, or the earlier incident involving the injured constable were provided in the report.

The incident took place in the Sadar Jaranwala area, with police saying the suspects were cornered near a bridge in Chak 122 GB after a chase led by the SHO and reinforced by additional personnel.

Police maintained that the firing began again after the suspects were asked to surrender. The suspect who was wounded during the encounter later succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to hospital.
