Surprise inspection at RDA finds 25 officers absent from duty
A surprise inspection in Rawalpindi found 25 officers absent from duty. The commissioner later ordered mandatory biometric attendance and location sharing for officers on field assignments.

Rawalpindi: A surprise inspection by Rawalpindi Commissioner, who is also serving as director general of the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), uncovered extensive absenteeism, with 25 officers found missing from their duties.
Following the visit, an emergency meeting was held at the DC Complex to review the situation. During the meeting, the commissioner reprimanded the officers who had been found absent and did not accept the explanations they offered.
The inspection highlighted concerns over attendance and workplace discipline in the offices that came under review during the visit. The commissioner responded by ordering stricter monitoring of attendance for both officers and staff.
Biometric attendance made mandatory
After the inspection and subsequent meeting, the commissioner directed that biometric attendance be made compulsory for all officers and staff members at both entry and exit points.
The move is aimed at ensuring that attendance is properly recorded and that officials remain accountable for their presence during working hours. The directive applies across the relevant offices under the commissioner’s administrative oversight.
In addition to the biometric system, the commissioner also issued instructions for officers assigned to field duties. Under the new directions, those working outside the office will be required to share their location in the official group.
The order is intended to create a record of field movement and to distinguish between officers who are absent without authorisation and those carrying out official assignments away from the office.
Emergency meeting held at DC Complex
The emergency meeting at the DC Complex was convened immediately after the surprise visit exposed the scale of absenteeism. According to the reported details, the commissioner took a strict view of the matter and rejected the justifications presented by the absent officers.
The development comes as the administration moves to tighten oversight of attendance and official conduct. The commissioner’s directives on biometric verification and location sharing for field staff were issued as immediate corrective steps after the inspection.
The surprise visit and the decisions taken afterward underscore an effort by the district administration to enforce discipline and improve monitoring mechanisms within government offices in Rawalpindi.
