Karachi temperature likely to rise to 33°C today, Met Office says

KARACHI: Stronger-than-usual winds swept across the city on Tuesday, while temperatures edged up slightly compared with the previous day, according to the Meteorological Department’s Early Warning Centre.

The city recorded winds from the southwest over the sea, with the maximum speed reaching 47 kilometres per hour, or 26 knots. The weather data also showed that Karachi’s minimum temperature was 24°C, while the maximum temperature reached 31.5°C.

Officials said the day’s highest temperature reflected a marginal increase of 1°C from the previous day.

According to the Meteorological Department’s Early Warning Centre, the maximum temperature in Karachi is expected to climb further on Wednesday. The forecast says the mercury may reach 33°C during the day.

The department has also projected another increase in temperature for Thursday, when the maximum is expected to rise to 34°C.

In its broader outlook for Sindh, the Meteorological Department said weather conditions in other cities of the province are likely to remain dry.

Temperature trend

The latest forecast indicates a gradual warming trend in Karachi over the next two days after Tuesday’s slight increase in daytime temperature. The city’s weather on Tuesday was also marked by relatively strong sea winds from the southwest, which were recorded at up to 47 km/h.

The official figures released by the Early Warning Centre showed a minimum temperature of 24°C and a maximum of 31.5°C for the day. Based on the department’s forecast, the maximum temperature is likely to increase by around 1.5°C on Wednesday before rising again on Thursday.

For the rest of Sindh, no rain-bearing system or major change in conditions was mentioned in the forecast issued by the Meteorological Department. The department said dry weather is expected to prevail in other cities across the province.

The forecast comes as Karachi moves into warmer conditions, with the Met Office indicating that temperatures are set to continue rising in the short term.
