Pakistan’s national football team suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Myanmar in their latest AFC Asian Cup qualifier, extending their winless run in the competition.
Pakistan produced a disciplined first-half display and held Myanmar to a goalless draw at the break. The game shifted early in the second half when goalkeeper Saqib Hanif accidentally turned the ball into his own net, giving the hosts the lead.
Myanmar strengthened their grip on the match in the 59th minute when Than Piang scored a well-taken second goal, leaving Pakistan with a steep challenge.
Pakistan tried to fight back late in the game, and Shayak Dost scored in stoppage time at 90+1 to offer a brief spark of hope. But the goal came too late to alter the result, as Myanmar held on to claim all three points.
Than Piang was later named man of the match for his decisive performance.
With the victory, Myanmar moved into second place in Group E with nine points, just behind leaders Syria. Pakistan, meanwhile, remain at the bottom of the table with two points after recording two draws and three defeats in the qualifiers.
